WHAT IS WAXING?
Waxing is one of the best ways to temporarily remove unwanted hair. It is more effective than shaving because it removes hair from the skin’s surface. Over time, hair in waxed areas regrows lighter and sparser, or not at all.
HOW LONG SHOULD HAIR BE?
The hair should be ¼ inch (5mm) long. If it is too short, the hair will be difficult to remove. More pain is associated with longer growth. If you typically shave please allow 10-14 days between shaving and waxing.
HOW LONG WILL THE RESULTS LAST?
Everyone is different. In most cases, you will see minimal re-growth during the first 3 weeks, with a noticeable increase after that. Continued waxing encourages slower, sparser regrowth.
HOW OFTEN SHOULD I BE WAXED?
For best results, we recommend a wax every 4-6 weeks. It takes around 4 treatments to get the hairs all on the same growth cycle so regular waxing not only gets less painful each time but also begins to last longer.
AGE RESTRICTIONS?
We do not permit Intimate Waxing on anyone under the age of 18.
For general waxing treatments of clients under 16 we need parental consent & presence of parent at the appointment.
IS WAXING SAFE FOR THOSE WITH SENSITIVE SKIN?
If it’s done properly, waxing can be a great benefit to people with sensitive skin. It is much gentler on the skin than many other methods of hair removal, such as shaving and at home depilatories. It is impossible to predict who will have a reaction to the wax or any product used. If you have sensitive skin it is very important to follow the instructions in the pre-waxing guide as well as the post-waxing guide.
CAN I GET A WAX DURING MY PERIOD?
Yes – as long as you’re wearing a tampon and you’re clean and fresh this won’t be a problem at all.
CAN I GET A WAX IF I AM PREGNANT?
Absolutely! Although your skin may be more sensitive than usual, our advanced wax formulas and specially developed techniques mean that the treatment will still be perfectly fine.
WHAT SHOULD I DO BEFORE TREATMENT?
Ideally you should gently exfoliate (please note that aggressive exfoliation will compromise the skin and make a waxing service inadvisable) and moisturise the area a couple of days prior to your appointment. Take a mild anti-inflammatory. This is typically only recommended for Brazilian and extended bikini waxes and will help to relieve some of the discomfort associated with these waxing procedures as well as reduce the swelling that you may experience. On the day of your appointment please shower before arrival. If you are coming straight from work, we can provide fresh wipes for your convenience.
WHAT IS AFTERCARE?
Keep the waxed area clean, and avoid heat and friction during the next 24-48 hours. This means:
- No hot baths or showers (warm water only).
- No saunas, hot tubs or steam treatments.
- No tanning (sunbathing, sunbeds or fake tans).
- No sport, gym work or other exercise.
- Avoid scratching or touching the treated area with unwashed hands.
- Avoid swimming in chlorinated pools.
- Do not apply deodorants, body sprays, powders, lotions or other products to the area.
- Use an exfoliating glove after two days, then two or three times a week after.
- Keep your skin moisturised every day. Ideally with a soothing antibacterial lotion for the first few days.
Please note: Some slight soreness, small bumps and redness are common and perfectly normal temporary reactions, particularly if this is your first wax. These symptoms should subside over 24-48 hours. If you experience persistent redness or irritation, or if you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact the salon.
WHEN CAN I NOT HAVE A WAX?
- Anyone currently taking Accutane or who has taken Accutane at any time within the past 6 months.
- Anyone who has treated their skin with steroid creams, Retin-A or any retinoid acne products cannot be waxed for three months after the course of treatment has been completed.
- Anyone who has any form of contagious skin condition until the condition has cleared up.
- Anyone who has an active Herpes outbreak
- Anyone with a sunburn on the area to be treated
- Anyone who has had a chemical peel over the treatment within the past 7 days
It is the responsibility of the client to discuss any concerns, conditions or medications that may be contra-indicated for waxing when you have your initial consultation.
